Biden Suddenly Sends a Message to Jokowi, What’s Up?


President of the United States (US) Joe Biden sent a special message to Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This was released by the official website of the US Embassy (Embassy) in Jakarta, seen by CNBC Indonesia , Friday (18/8/2023).

In the letter, Biden congratulated Indonesia on celebrating 78 years of Indonesian Independence. He also praised the relations between the two countries which were built on the principles of democracy for the prosperity of the people.

“On behalf of the people of the United States of America, I convey our sincere wishes to you and the people of Indonesia as you celebrate 78 years of independence,” he wrote.

Biden also mentioned that Indonesia and the US have worked together on several strategic issues such as security, climate change, to the interpersonal relations of the two countries.

“We work together to address global challenges such as climate change and environmental protection,” he said.

Furthermore, Biden also praised Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN this year and the big theme it brought, namely ” ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth “.

“I hope to further deepen and expand our cooperation and friendship in the coming year. Congratulations on Indonesia’s independence day,” he added.

Please note, the US is Indonesia’s major trading partner. Based on BPS data in June, as of March 2023, non-oil and gas exports to the US are the second largest after China, with a value of US$ 1.97 billion.
